Whitty steadies the boat
The match against Belgrave saw the boys get off to a disasterous start losing 3/3 in very quick time. Damian Berenato steadied the ship with Mick Hewitt with Dumbo making a very good 44 and Mick 23. Nick Whitty then came to the crease and took control of the game with plenty of help from our middle and lower order and Nick made an outstanding 50 to get the boys to a score of 162. Belgrave started well in reply and slowly built up a score that looked to challenge the boys but once the top order was out of the way the bowlers managed to get through the tail comfortably and got Belgrave out for 136. Steve Gannell took 3 wickets with Steve Moore and Strhany taking 2 a piece.
The second XI almost followed the same script with the boys batting first and making 6/166 in their allotted overs. Shane Cross and Paul McCarrick came to the rescue after an early collapse with Smoo making 23 and Shane Cross making 53n.o. James Dobbie Hayward made a very good 27and Dain Howe 21. In reply Belgrave could only make 8/147 off their overs with some excellent bowling from Shane Cross, Brant Kennedy and David Crombie.
The thirds played on the Sunday in a tribute match at Belgrave and probably had a day they would prefer not to dwell on. Belgrave made a score of 159 with Sam Vance taking a bag of 4/40 and Darren Buck 3/17. In reply the boys were bundled out for 90 with only Darren Buck having a significant impact with the bat making 32.
