Taylor & Evans Ton Up and Juniors come back after XMas

Friday and Saturday saw all the juniors and senior teams return from the Christmas break.  Friday night saw a severely undermanned U/12 side take on Bayswater and the boys have a big run chase ahead of them next Friday due to only having 7 players and no subs offered by the opposition - not sure what is happening to the spirit of cricket really but maybe I should have released Liam Dunning to send down 7 overs of thunderbolts. The U/13 boys put in their best performance of the season with Ben Tohill putting in two excellent spells to bag 3 wickets and Liam Dunning picking up 2 wickets as well.  The boys are 50 runs behind with 9 wickets in hand. The U/17 boys took on Ferntree Gully at FTG and Jake Evans scored another century for the season which is an outstanding effort considering the bog well grassed ground.  Matty Chambers also chipped in with a 50.  The fourths narrowly missed out on a win in their one day game but a highlight was Brant Kennedy picking up a hat trick.  The thirds posted a disappointing score on the cabbage patch but have Mt Gate 5 wickets down so their match is evenly balanced. The seconds posted 280 at the Basin with Captain Brenton Hurst leading the way with a well constructed 70 and Paul McCarrick returned to form with a 60.  The first XI hosted The Basin and batted first.  Matty Mulcahy batted beautifully for 68 until he departed courtesy of an absolute blinder of a catch at first slip. Sam Taylor continued his great form with a great knock of 132.  The boys now have to restrict the Basin big hitters next week to bring home the bacon.
