Tiger Wrap - Round 1 - A Gem and a Jimmy go Boom!

Seniors

The 1st XI traveled to FTG for the opening round and prior to the match we saw club great, Shane Cross present caps to our 2 new recruits for their first game - Cam Wheeler and Liam Hunt.  Moorey lost the toss but surprisingly we were sent in to bat.  We started off in grat fashion with Damian Berenato and Chris Jewell getting us off to a flyer with a 60 run partnership before Dumbo went for 27.  Small partnerships appeared through the rest of the day supporting Huss who eventually went out for an outstanding 82.  The boys ended up 7/179 after our 40 overs.  We opened up with our two newcomers and it only took 4 balls before Cam Wheeler opened his club account uprooting the stumps of quality batsman Josh Henry.  Not long after that Liam Hunt also claimed his first scalp bowling  Teofilo.  The bowling and fielding was outstanding and the boys took wickets regularly eventually breaking up some late partnerships.  We got Gully out for 144 with Cam Wheeler taking 3/21, Steve Moore 3/33, Ben Wood 1/25, Liam Hunt 1/12, Liam dunning 1/12 and Steve Gannell 1/36.  A fantastic first up result for the boys.

The seconds went into bat first and Dain Howe and James Dobbie-Hayward partnered up beautifully for an opening partnership of 77 before Howie went for 37.  After that Brenton Hurst made his comeback to the team and played a supporting role making 34 whilst Jimmy was literally blasting balls all over the ground and he ended up 101 not out.  When it came our turn to bowl it was a case of continual tight pressure and wickets that saw us get FTG out for 148.  Strahany was the main hitman on the day taking 4/24 and Jake Lynch wasnt far behind him taking 3/36.  Jordan Tailby, Jack Hughes and Stephen Capon all grabbed a wicket a piece.

The 3rds were at home against South Belgrave on the cabbage patch and the boys got a chance to bowl first.  Again it was a procession of wickets knocking over Sth Belgrave for 90 with Tahj Kensley taking 3/24 and the obligatory 3/7 from Shane Cross and the return of Steve Bedson saw him grab 3/13 and newcomer Tim Wilson grabbed his first wicket for the club as well.  In reply the boys chased the runs down within 14 overs making 1/94 with Kev Hayward on 43 not out and Rhett Chapman making 21 not out.

The 4ths headed up to Monbulk and made a very good score of 154 with Nick Wood making 30, Ryley Hannigan making 36 and Lachy Dennis making 29.  The boys restricted Monbulk to 4/117 off their allotted overs with Pete Ruddock and Lachy Dennis both taking 2 wickets apiece.

Juniors

The U/12 team traveled to Olinda and made 2/81 with Sam wicks making 21 retired, Jethro Cousins making 13 retired and Leigh McVicar making 10.  In reply we restricted Olinda to 6/52 with Matty Milner picking up 2 wickets, Sam Wicks, Leigh McVicar, Noah Weston and Alexander Moore all getting a wicket.  This was the first ever win for this group of boys so they were pretty happy.

The U/14 boys played at home against FTG with the Gully boys batting first and making 2/104.  Josh McMeekan and Buster Todd both took a wicket apiece.  In reply the boys worked hard but could only reach 3/94.  Josh McMeekan in his first game for the club made 25 retired as did Aiden Beattie.  Patrick Atherton batted well for 18 not out.

The U/16 were at Knox Gardens on Saturday morning and batted first and made 9/107 with Lachie Jansen retiring on 50.  In reply Knox Gardens passed the score comfortably and according to our coaches we bowled way too short and that is the key reason we gave away some many runs.
